  • - ¹ÚÁöÈÆ (KAIST)
  • - ÀÌÁ¾¼± (KAIST)
  • - ¹èÁ¾Å (KAIST)
[Abstract]
Open innovation through technological licensing has become an important mean for technology innovation in rapidly changing environment. This study examined the effects of inward licensing on innovative performance for Korean manufacturing SMEs. Also, we investigated the moderating effects of internal and external factors such as innovation/imitation-focused strategy and technological dynamism. Especially, this study utilized propensity score matching to control for endogeneity. Based on evidence from Korean Innovation Survey, we measured innovative performance as the percent of firms¡¯ total sales derived from products newly introduced or improved. The positive effects of inward licensing on innovative performance are statistically significant only in SMEs, but not significant in large firms. Also, inward licensing improves the innovative performance when SMEs are pursuing imitation-focused strategy rather than innovation-focused strategy, and when their industries are characterized as relatively high technological dynamism.

  • - ÀÌ°æ¿ø (Çѱ¹»ê¾÷±â¼ú´ëÇб³)
[Abstract]
The empowerment of R & D Capability and export for medium-sized company with annual sales level of 100 billion won, are much more effective than the direct tax cuts and direct financial support. In order to enhance the commercialization efficiency compared to the big scale of R & D investment, excellent conceptual design and patents as the initial direction of the R & D with strategy are very important.
TRIZ as Russian Theory of Inventive Problem Solving has been used and shown good results in the conceptual design stage of R & D department of large companies such as SAMSUNG, POSCO etc. 20 years ago. However, the classical TRIZ is difficult, complex and unfamiliar for small and medium-sized companies. The use and results in medium-sized companies have been very limited.
This paper explains the simple Quick TRIZ process effective for medium-sized manufacturing companies, the right TRIZ project finding and the right implementation process for commercializing the conceptual ideas by using TRIZ as commercial products. In particular, this study explains how the government, SMBA (small and medium-sized business association) deploy the R & D policy much better for raising the R & D capability of the medium-size companies with making the successful stories of applying TRIZ in short period and then, extending more the activities to more companies fast and effectively.

  • - KeonHee Lee (Kookmin University)
  • - Sangjin Jung (Hyupsung Univesity)
[Abstract]
The SMEs in OECD countries occupy 95% of total firms and contribute 60-70% of total employment. The objective of the research is to investigate the characteristics in the financing support system for SMEs by region in those countries. This research also compares with the regions how much several kinds of financing support methods contribute the economic growth and employment. The OECD countries can be grouped into five regions such as western Europe, eastern Europe, nothern America, middle and southern America, and Asia. The financing support system for SMEs in each region shows distinct features with regard to development stage in market economy, socialistic element, economic circumstance such as financial crisis or public finance crisis, and current economic growth policy. Moreover, compared the government financing support methods for SMEs with regions, the degree of market orientation decreases in the order of Asia, middle and southern America, western Europe, eastern Europe, and nothern America. This feature also is affected by the same elements. With regard to policy implication, the good economic performance can be accomplished by the market-oriented financing support system such as venture financing. The government financing support methods should be improved into the market-oriented financing, changing the indiscriminate support method into ive support method.

A Study of Survival Strategies of ICT Venture and SMEs in Digital Ecosystem
  • - ÀÌ°è¼ö (¼þ½Ç´ëÇб³)

[Abstract]
With the emergence of smartphones, ICT sector is developing into a new digital ecosystem and the paradigm of the ICT industry is rapidly changing as the line between between global and local markets are being blurred. In the changing global environment, although some game companies are accelerating the improvement of their global competitiveness and cases of successes of venture enterprises by developing biosimilar technology are being discovered, majority of ICT companies are focusing on limited marketing activities to get subcontracts or projects from large companies. Thus the aim of this study is to find out how business models and strategies have changed of individual companies according to the evolution of the digital ecosystem, and ways for domestic ICT Venture and SMEs to achieve the competitiveness on the global value chain by analysing factors of the competitiveness of companies that are playing the core role on the chain. The researcher ed an entreprenuership, market-innovation orientation, technology-innovation orientation, and Administration-innovation orientation as internal factors influencing the global competence and healthiness of the ecosystem, the degree of support from policy as external factors. The researcher applied samples of 94 ICT Venture and SMEs to a research model, and adopted 5 hypotheses.
The researcher believes that only a few hypotheses were adopted because it takes time for overall innovation orientation of ICT Venture and SMEs to result in the real global competence as the their innovation orientation is still on the level of domestic market. And the researcher also thinks that only healthiness of the ecosystem affected management performances because the companies¡¯ performances of the last 3 years were so weak that the correlation between innovation orientation of each company and the performances were not big enough.

An Integrative Approach to Entrepreneurship Research Methodologies
  • - Young soo Kim (Soongsil University)
  • - Sang Ki Seong¼º»ó±â (Soongsil University)
[Abstract]
To gain the legitimacy of entrepreneurship study as a distinctive disciplinary area, it is necessary to reach a consensus on the research domains and the methods of the study. Among them, this study focuses on the research methods of entrepreneurship study. In the paper, the major findings have been listed as a top-down approach to outline the methods followed by several multidisciplinary theories as a bottom-up approach among a myriad of preceding studies in the overseas.
To describe and explain the unique features of entrepreneurship, which are not observed in other areas, by utilize those theories, it is required to set up its own methodology. Not existing a priori, this can be done by the shift of paradigm, which is the result of changes in ideas and acceptance of new ideas among scholars through ceaseless discussions as seen in the history of scientific methodology.
A single or unified method should not be forced for the study of entrepreneurship. To understand the diversities, complexities and dynamics of entrepreneurship phenomena, opportunity process approach from different dimensions should be considered. Therefore, the focus should be placed on the qualitative research methods, which concerns the investigation of circumstantial contexts. In addition, active accommodation of new methodologies and findings in other areas is recommended in accordance with recent trend of disciplinary convergence. Finally, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional approach models for entrepreneurship study are suggested, which are developed by authors following this principle.

[Abstract]
The paper examined the coopetition in the organizational learning framework of exploration and exploitation. Specifically, we focused on different dynamics of exploration and exploitation, and suggest coopetition will affect differently to each. Moreover, absorptive capacity and appropriability was suggested as key variables that moderate each relationship of coopetition and learning. We used the Korea Innovation Survey data from year 2008 to 2010, and the test results supported positive relationship between coopetition and exploration and the moderating effect of absorptive capacity.
